A Simple Men's Hair Care Routine

By the Casa Barbershop team · Updated · 4 min read

This is what we tell people who ask how to keep their hair right between cuts. Nothing complicated, and it's set up for Dubai, where you can sweat just walking to the car.

1. Wash two or three times a week

Use a shampoo for your hair type, but don't wash every day.

Daily washing strips the natural oils, so your scalp dries out and your hair gets brittle. If you train, just rinse with water on the days in between.

2. Use conditioner every time

Shampoo cleans and conditioner puts the moisture back. Your hair stays softer and is easier to style.

If you wear it longer, like a slick back, pompadour or mid part, don't skip it.

3. Dry it gently

Rubbing hard with a towel roughs up the hair and gives you frizz.

Pat it until damp, then use a dryer on medium heat and a brush to get it roughly into place before any product goes in.

4. Pick the right product

For a natural look with some texture, use a matte clay or paste.

For shine and a sleek finish, use pomade.

For longer hair, a light cream gives a soft hold that still moves.

5. Keep your cuts regular

Every cut loses its shape as it grows. To keep a fade sharp, come in every 2 to 3 weeks.

6. Pick a cut that fits your mornings

If you have five minutes before work, don't choose a cut that needs fifteen. Tell your barber how much time you actually spend on your hair.

Drinking enough water and eating well helps your hair too.

Questions we get asked

How often should men wash their hair?

Two or three times a week. Washing every day strips the natural oils and can leave you with a dry scalp and brittle hair.

Which hair product is best for a natural look?

A matte clay, paste or powder. You get hold and volume with no shine, so it looks like there is nothing in there.
